My name is Jessica Vue. I started roller skating because of the movie Whip It (2009). I did roller derby training under the Atlanta Derby Brats program, now known as Atlanta Junior Roller Derby. I roller skated again in 2019 on a first date. I jumped head first back into skating again in 2021 after receiving my first full time job offer. I started doing film photography in 2022.

Point of Vou was coined in 2021 (when I was looking for a cooler Instagram handle). It’s a play on words. My last name is often mispronounced as “view.” Point of Vue was already taken on Instagram, so I used the alternative spelling of my last name, inspired by my uncles and aunties, who use the alternative spelling of their last names for privacy.

In the summer of 2023, I had a few film frames left.

When I got my photos back, my skate pictures were the best ones. I was surprised; they were better than I could have ever imagined. I couldn’t stop looking at them. The pit in my stomach told me that this was special. This gave me the confidence that this was something I could do.

Most of my photographs are taken while on my skates and are mainly candids. I have photographed roller skating, inline skating, and skateboarding. I have photographed dance, aggressive, and park skating styles.

My hope is to reflect the joy, beauty, athleticism, and art back to my friends and skate community.

None of my work would be possible without them. For that, I am eternally grateful for their love and support.
